Colorwork Snowman Hat Knitting Pattern- a festive hat featuring a motif of jolly snowmen.
These snowmen are created using a technique called colorwork (or stranded) knitting. Stranded knitting involves using multiple colors of yarn to create a pattern. The yarn that isn’t being used is carried across the back of the work. It may seem awkward at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s really fun!

Colorwork Snowman Hat Knitting Pattern

Yarn: Lion Brand Heartland in Redwood, Dry Tortugas, Black Canyon and a small amount of #4 worsted weight orange yarn for the nose
Needles: Size US 7, 16 inch circular knitting needles, size US 8, 16 inch circular needles
Gauge: 8 sts= 2 inches
Size: ages 7-10 years old
Pattern instructions:
With the smaller circular needles and the red yarn, cast on 80 sts. Place a marker at the beginning of the round. Work in K1, P1 ribbing for one inch.
Beginning in the lower right corner of the Chart, knit every round and change yarn color following Chart until 28 rounds of the chart have been completed. On the 29th round, decreasing 3 stitches evenly (77 sts).
Shape the crown:
Switch to dpn needles when needed.
Round 1: K3, *k2tog, k5; rep from * to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2 (66 sts)
Round 2: K2, *k2tog, k4; rep from * to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2 (55 sts)
Round 3: K2, *k2tog, k3; rep from * to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 (44 sts)
Round 4: K1, *k2tog, k2; rep from * to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 (33 sts)
Round 5: K1, *k2tog, k1; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2tog (22 sts)
Round 6: Knit 2 together to the end of the round.
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull to tighten. Secure and weave in the ends. Make and attach pom pom.
