Yarn: Lion Brand Landscapes in (#4 worsted weight, 1 skein)
Needles: Size US 7 circular knitting needles 16-inch, size US 7 double pointed knitting needles
Gauge: 8 sts=2 inches
Size: 3-7 years old
Pattern instructions:
With the circular needle, cast on 90 sts.
Place marker for the beg of the round.
For the brim: *K1, p1; rep from * around until the the piece measures approximately 1 inch.
Faux Cable Pattern:
Rounds 1 and 2: Knit.
Rounds 3-6: P2, *k4, p6; rep from * to last 8 sts, k4, p4.
Rounds 7 and 8: Knit.
Rounds 9-12: *K4, p6; rep from * around.
Rounds 13 and 14: Knit.
Rounds 15-18: K2, *p6, k4; rep from * to last 8 sts, p6, k2.
Rounds 19 and 20: Knit.
Rounds 21-24: *P6, k4; rep from * around.
Rounds 25 and 26: Knit.
Rounds 27-30: P4, *k4, p6; rep from * to last 6 sts, k4, p2.
Rounds 31 and 32: Knit.
Rounds 33-50: Rep Rnds 3-20.
Rounds 51-53: *P6, k4; rep from * around.
Switch to double point needles when needed
Round 54: *P2, p2tog, p2, k4; rep from * around (81 sts)
Rounds 55 and 56: Knit.
Rounds 57-59: P4, *k4, p5; rep from * to last 5 sts, k4, p1.
Round 60: P2tog, p2, *k4, p1, p2tog, p2; rep from * to last 5 sts, k4, p1 (72 sts)
Rounds 61 and 62: Knit.
Rounds 63-66: P1, *k4, p4; rep from * to last 7 sts, k4, p3.
Rounds 67: Knit.
Rounds 68: K2tog around (36 sts)
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread tail through remaining sts and pull tail to close opening at top of the hat. Knot securely and weave in ends.
