Knit Fox Scarf Pattern- a cute woodland scarf in kids and adult sizes!

Knit Fox Scarf Pattern

This pattern was re-worked from one I found at Craft Foxes.

This fox scarf is knit using a simple stockinette stitch. The tail and face are created using a series of increase and decrease stitches. The ears are knit separately and then sewn on.

Knit Fox Scarf Pattern

Yarn: Cloudborn Highland DK in Autumn Heather (2 skeins- if you would like to make the scarf longer, buy another skein), and in Ecru (1 skein)

Needles: Size US 6 single point knitting needles

Also needed: button eyes and nose, yarn needle

(The scarf is knit starting at the tail)

For the body:

With the Ecru yarn, cast on 2 sts. Working in Stockinette Stitch, increase 1 stitch at every end until you have 60 sts, ending with a wrong side row.

Switch to orange yarn. Continue working in Stockinette Stitch until the piece measures 44 inches from the cast on edge. (Note- if you would like to make the scarf longer, add the extra inches here)

Decrease

Row 1 (right side) : K2tog, k56, k2tog. (58 sts)

Row 2: Purl across.

Repeat the last 2 rows 14 times. (30 sts)

Work 8 rows in Stockinette Stitch.

Increase

Row 1: Kfb, k to the last st, kfb. (32 sts)

Work next 3 rows in Stockinette Stitch

Row 4: Kfb, k to the last st, kfb. (34 sts)

Work 5 rows in Stockinette Stitch.

Decrease

Row 1: K2tog, k30, k2tog. (32 sts)

Work 3 rows in Stockinette Stitch.

Row 4:  K2tog, k to last st, k2tog. (30 sts)

Work 5 rows Stockinette Stitch.

Row 9:: K2tog, k to last 2 sts, k2tog. (28 sts)

Row 10: Purl all stitches.

Repeat the last 2 rows 2 times. (24 sts)

Row 15: K3tog, k18, k3tog. (20 sts)

Row 16: Purl across.

Repeat the last 2 rows 2 times. (12 sts)

Row 21: K2tog, k8, k2tog. (10 sts)

Row 22: Purl across.

Work 10 rows in Stockinette Stitch.

Row 33: Change to the Ecru yarn and work 10 more rows in Stockinette Stitch.

Increase

Row 1:  Kfb, k to last st, kfb. (12 sts)

Row 2: Purl across.

Row 3:  Kfbf, k to last st, kfbf. (16 sts)

Row 4: Purl across.

Repeat the last 2 rows 2 times.

Row 9: Kfb, k to last st, kfb. (26 sts)

Row 10: Purl across.

Repeat the last 2 rows 2 times.
Work 4 rows in Stockinette Stitch.

Row 19: Kfb, k28, kfb. (32 sts)

Work 3 rows in Stockinette Stitch.

Row 23: Kfb, k30, kfb. (34 sts)

Work 5 rows in Stockinette Stitch.

Decrease

Row 1: K2tog, k30, k2tog (32 sts)

Work 3 rows in Stockinette Stitch.

Row 5:  K2tog, k28, k2tog. (30 sts)

Work 9 rows in Stockinette Stitch.

Row 15: K2tog, k to last st, k2tog. (28 sts)

Row 16: Purl across.

Repeat the last 2 rows until you have 4 sts.

Next row: K2tog twice. (2 sts)

Next row: Purl across.
Next row: K2tog. (1 st)

Bind off.

For the ears (make 4)

Using the orange yarn, work 10 rows in Stockinette Stitch.

Row 11: K2tog, k to the last 2 sts, k2tog. (14 sts)

Row 12: Purl across.
Repeat the last 2 rows until you have 4 sts.
Row 23 [K2tog] x2. (2 sts)
BO purlwise.

Sew the front and back of the ears together.

Knit Fox Scarf Pattern

Finishing:

Lightly block the scarf. Sew the orange and white face pieces together. Fold the body of the fox in half and sew together.

Sew on the eyes and nose and the ears.
