Cleaning Tips for Cold and Flu Season

As a mom with two small children, I certainly do my share of cleaning! Sometimes it feels like the chores are never-ending! We’re in peak flu season right now, so I’m very conscious about the germs my kids bring home from school and the indoor play areas we frequent. One bad virus can put us out of commission for a week! That is why I am so excited about the new Microban 24, a new line of antibacterial sanitizing products that keep the surfaces in homes sanitized for 24 hours. I am going to share some tips for keeping your home germ-free this cold and flu season.

Choose the right Disinfectant Spray

A disinfectant spray or antibacterial spray is an effective way to kill germs. However, not all disinfectant cleaners are created equal! Many antibacterial products are just a short-term solution. They kill 99.9% of bacteria but once someone touches, drops something or sneezes on that surface again, bacteria can be reintroduced. Microban 24 keeps surfaces protected from the spread and growth of bacteria for 24 hours, even when contacted multiple times by you or your little one. 24 hour protection from bacteria on surfaces when used as directed means less time spent cleaning in a day, which is something us busy moms can get on board with!

Weekly cleaning usually involves chores like vacuuming/mopping the floors and cleaning the shower/bathtub. During cold and flu season it is especially important to clean the areas of the house that come in daily contact with people’s hands  (doorknobs, light switches, etc).

Main contact points in your home include:

Door knobs, handles or locks.

Light switches.

Stair rails.

Faucet and toilet handles.

Remote controls.

Teach Your Children Well

Anyone who has kids knows that their hygiene can be a little scary!  I like to gently remind my son to wash his hands throughout the day, and to cover his mouth when he coughs or sneezes.

Some other flu prevention tips to share are:

Don’t share food or drinks.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing.

Politely keep your distance from people who are sick.
