Vegan Halloween Brownies- dairy and flour free and perfect for Halloween!
These Vegan Halloween Brownies are a fun and (relatively) healthy treat for the holiday. They're made with black beans but don't worry, you'd never be able to tell! I love to serve these brownies to non-Vegans and then reveal the secret ingredient (and that they're dairy-free!) Everyone is always pleasantly surprised!
The trick when you are making these brownies is to make sure the mixture is thoroughly blended. Chunks of chocolate chips in brownies? Great! Chunks of black beans? Eh, not so much. I also make sure to use a high-quality cocoa powder. These brownies taste even better when I use Ghirardelli cocoa instead of Hershey's.
The finishing touch for brownies are the festive Jack-O-Lantern faces. At first, I thought of doing a decoration using icing, but honestly, these brownies are so good they don't need all that extra sweetness. I decided to do sugar stencils and I love the way they turned out! The stencils are easy to use (I posted a full tutorial below), which is great because I'm hardly a master at pastry decorating!
I bought these Jack-O-Lantern baking stencils on Amazon. They're firm plastic, easy to clean and they can be reused many times.

How to Make the Jack-O-Lantern Faces
Supplies needed:
Confectioner's sugar
Make sure the brownies are thoroughly cooled before decorating.
Cut the brownies into 6 even-sized squares. Place the brownie on a plate and center the stencil on top.
Scoop some confectioner's sugar into the sifter. Gently shake it back and forth over the stencil.
This takes a bit of trial and error. If you shake too fast the sugar can fall out of the spoon in clumps on the brownie. It's best to go slow.
Keep sifting until the stencil is thoroughly covered with sugar.
Gently remove the stencil to reveal the Jack-O-Lantern face.
Brush off any stray sugar with a toothpick.
These brownies are easy to transport which makes them perfect for parties and bake sales (as long as you don't stack them)
