How to Knit the Drop Stitch
How to Knit the Drop Stitch- a fun, beginner-friendly stitch that’s perfect for spring knits!
The Drop Stitch is one of those knitting stitches that looks complicated, but it couldn’t be easier to make! I uploaded a video illustrating just how simple the stitch is. The Drop Stitch is created by knitting the first stitch in a row and then yarn over (YO) twice. You continue in this manner (knit 1 stitch, yarn over twice) across the row. If you’re unfamiliar with “yarn over”, it means to wrap the yarn around the front of the right needle. Yarn over is used to create extra stitches or it can also be used to create a lacey effect when knitting.
On the second row you knit the knit stitches and drop the extra wraps between each knit stitch. Still unsure? Don’t forget to check out the video below.
I’ll be back tomorrow with a free knitting pattern using the Drop Stitch!
Above is the Drop Stitch knitted on two different weights of yarn. On the left is a medium weight yarn (#4) and on the right is Bulky weight (#5).
