Frankenstein Hat Knitting Pattern- a classic Halloween costume that’s the perfect mix of scary and cute!
Halloween is one week away, but that’s still plenty of time to create a great costume! This Frankenstein Hat Knitting Pattern can be completed in an evening so it’s perfect for last minute costumes. All you need is a thrifted jacket and pants to complete the look.
This hat is knit in the round with a simple color swap at the crown. The bolts are knitted separately and stitched on. Finally, the stitches added.
Frankenstein Hat Knitting Pattern
Size: Small child (for reference, Indigo is 3 1/2 years old)
Yarn: Starlette yarn in Lime, Starlette yarn in Black, small amount of grey worsted weight yarn
Needles: Size 9 Circular, 16 inch, Size 9 Double Point Needles
With the lime yarn, cast on 68 sts and join together. K2, P2 for 4 rows.
Knit in the round until piece measures 6 inches from the cast on edge.
Shape crown:
(Switch to double point needles when needed)
Row 1: Knit 8, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 2: Knit 7, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Switch to black yarn
Row 3: Knit 6, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 4: Knit 5, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 5: Knit 4, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 6: Knit 3, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 7: Knit 2, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 8: Knit 1, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Knit 2 together across round until you are left with 8 sts. Break yarn, pull through remaining stitches and pull to tighten. Weave in ends.
For the bolts:
With the grey yarn, cast on 9 sts. Work in Stockinette stitch until piece measures 3 inches. Bind off. Roll up and stitch closed.
Finishing:
Stitch bolts on to the sides of the hat above the ribbed brim. Add stitches using black yarn and a yarn needle.
