Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Hat Knitting Pattern- a new twist on a classic costume!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles make an easy, comfortable costume that little boys love! Instead of the traditional face mask, I created this knit hat with an attached mask.
This hat is knit in the round. It features ties in the back and the mask is a simple Garter Stitch.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Hat Knitting Pattern
Size: Small Child (for reference, Indigo is 3 1/2 years old)
Yarn: Starlette Yarn in Green Grass, Starlette Yarn in Burnt Orange
Needles: Size 9 Circular, 16 inch, Size 9 Double Point Needles
For the Hat:
With the green yarn, cast on 68 sts and join together. Knit in K1, P1 ribbing for 1 row. Knit in the round until piece measures 6 inches from the cast on edge.
Shape crown:
(Switch to double point needles when needed)
Row 1: Knit 8, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 2: Knit 7, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 3: Knit 6, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 4: Knit 5, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 5: Knit 4, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 6: Knit 3, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 7: Knit 2, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 8: Knit 1, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Knit 2 together across round until you are left with 8 sts. Break yarn, pull through remaining stitches and pull to tighten, Weave in ends.
For the Face Mask:
With the orange yarn and circular needles, cast on 50 stitches. Pick up and knit 25 for the mask. Cast on another 50 stitches. Knit for 3 rows.
Row 4: Knit across 53 sts. Bind off 8 sts. Knit 3 sts. Bind off 8 sts. Knit across the last 53 sts.
Row 5: Knit across 53 sts. Cast on 12 sts. Knit middle 3 sts. Cast on 12 sts. Knit across the last 53 sts.
Row 6-9: Knit across.
Bind off. Weave in ends.
