Apple Hat Knitting Pattern- a cozy & fun hat that’s perfect for fall!
Apple picking season is in full swing, so (of course!) a new hat was in order! This Apple Hat Knitting Pattern is a fast and fun knit that’s perfect for working on in front of your favorite show. It’s knit in the round with some simple crown shaping. The stem is created by working the last handful of stitches with double point needles. The leaves are knit separately and then stitched on.

Apple Hat Knitting Pattern
Size: Young Child (for reference, Indigo is 3 1/2 years old)
Yarn: Starlette in Cardinal, Vanna’s Choice Chocolate, Loops & Threads Joy DK yarn
Needles: Size 9 Circular, 16 inch, Size 9 Double Point Needles,Size 6 Single Point Knitting Needle
With the red yarn, cast on 68 sts and join together. Knit in the round until piece measures 6 1/2 inches from the cast on edge.
Shape crown:
(Switch to double point needles when needed)
Row 1: Knit 8, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 2: Knit 7, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 3: Knit 6, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 4: Knit 5, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 5: Knit 4, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 6: Knit 3, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 7: Knit 2, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Row 8: Knit 1, knit 2 together, repeat across round.
Knit 2 together across round until you are left with 8 sts. Switch to chocolate yarn and work until “stem” measures 1 1/2 inches. Break yarn, pull through remaining stitches and pull to tighten, Weave in ends.
How to Make the Leaves:
Use Size 6 single point needle and green yarn
For the larger leaf:
Cast on 3 sts.
Row 1: Purl
Row 2: K1, YO, K1, YO, K1 (5 sts)
Row 3: Purl
Row 4: K2, YO, K1, YO, K2 (7 sts)
Row 5: Purl
Row 6: K3, YO, K1, YO, K3 (9 sts)
Row 7: Purl
Row 8: K4, YO, K1, YO, K4 (11 sts)
Row 9: Purl
Row 10: K5, YO, K1, YO, K5 (13 sts)
Decrease
Row 1: Purl
Row 2: Knit 2 together, knit to last 2 sts, knit 2 together
Repeat these 2 rows until 3 sts remain
Purl row
Knit 2 together, Knit 1, pass stitch over to bind off.
For the smaller leaf:
Cast on 3 sts.
Row 1: Purl
Row 2: K1, YO, K1, YO, K1 (5 sts)
Row 3: Purl
Row 4: K2, YO, K1, YO, K2 (7 sts)
Row 5: Purl
Row 6: K3, YO, K1, YO, K3 (9 sts)
Row 9: Purl
Decrease
Row 1: Purl
Row 2: Knit 2 together, knit to last 2 sts, knit 2 together
Repeat these 2 rows until 3 sts remain
Purl row
Knit 2 together, Knit 1, pass stitch over to bind off.
