Newborn Hat Knitting Pattern- a classic design that knits up fast!

Baby #2 is due at the beginning of December, so I figured it’s never too early to start knitting newborn hats! This hat features a ribbed brim and the rest is worked in knit stitch which makes this a breeze to complete.

On a recent trip to Michael’s I came across this Loops & Threads Joy DK yarn. It’s the first time I’ve seen it, and I will definitely be purchasing it again! It knits up easy, doesn’t pill and it comes in a variety of beautiful colors.

Newborn Hat Knitting Pattern

Needles: Size 7 circular, 16 inch, Size 7 double point (pattern can be worked using magic loop method or with double point needles)

Yarn: Loops & Threads Joy DK yarn

Size: 0-3 months

Cast on 60 sts. Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 8 rows.

Knit in the round from rows 9-19.

Shape crown:

Row 20: Knit 13, knit 2 together, repeat across round.

Row 21: Knit 12, knit 2 together, repeat across round.

Row 22: Knit 11, knit 2 together, repeat across round.

Row 23: Knit 10, knit 2 together, repeat across round.

Row 24: Knit 9, knit 2 together, repeat across round.

Row 25: Knit 8, knit 2 together, repeat across round.

Row 26: Knit 7, knit 2 together, repeat across round.

Row 27: Knit 6, knit 2 together, repeat across round.

Row 28: Knit 5, knit 2 together, repeat across round.

Row 29: Knit 4, knit 2 together, repeat across round.

Row 30: Knit 3, knit 2 together, repeat across round.

Row 31: Knit 2, knit 2 together, repeat across round.

Row 32: Knit 1, knit 2 together, repeat across round.

Row 33: Knit 2 together across round.

Break yarn and pull through remaining stitches. Pull to tighten and weave in ends.
