How to Hygge in the Spring

I’m sure many of you are familiar with the Danish term “Hygge” (pronounced Hue-guh). Hygge doesn’t have an exact English translation, but it can best be described as a cozy feeling brought on by the simpler things in life, like reading a book in front of a fire. This warm and cozy lifestyle has taken the internet by storm, with inviting pictures of chunky knit sweaters, hot chocolate and picture-esque snowfalls. Hygge is mostly associated with winter months, but who doesn’t want that cozy lifestyle year round? I teamed up with the makers of the Glade® Atmosphere Collection™ to show you how to get your Hygge on in warmer months too!

Fresh scents

How to Hygge in the Spring

Fragrance is the easiest way to set the mood in your home. The way a home smells is usually the first thing people notice, so I make sure my house smells inviting! I like to switch my home’s fragrance depending on the season. For the spring, I’m loving Glade® Atmosphere Collection™ Fine Fragrance Mist No.2 Bright™ and No.3 Free™ scents.  The No. 2 Bright™ fragrance is fresh and welcoming- perfect for spring Hygge! It contains raspberry notes combined with jasmine, rose and sweet pea over a bed of power musk, sweet Tonka bean and sheer blonde wood scents. No. 3 Free™ scent smells like a day at the beach! It has notes of white pineapple, citrus and beachside florals combined with layers of coconut, beach woods and vanilla bean scents.

These fragrance mists smell just as good as the ones in high-end stores, and they’re a fraction of the price!

Bring the outside in

Decorating with natural elements is one of my favorite parts of Hygge. This includes everything from natural wood furniture to a bowl of pinecones collected on a walk. I love to decorate with plenty of houseplants. Not only are houseplants beautiful, they’re great for the air quality.  Fresh flowers and planting an indoor herb garden are also great ways to Hygge in the spring.

Spring clean

I think we can all agree that a fresh, clean home just makes us feel better. It’s hard to relax and enjoy your environment when there’s clutter. Give your house a good deep-cleaning and donate anything you no longer love or find useful.

Sip a soothing drink

Rich hot chocolate smothered with marshmallows is perfect around the holidays, but spring calls for something lighter. Tea is always a great choice, but if you want to branch out, sip some Kombucha or create a tasty mocktail. Sit by a sunny window and sip your beverage while flipping through a magazine. Spring Hygge achieved!

Hygge is about enjoying your environment, which is hard to do if you’re staring at a screen. I use to seriously struggle with unplugging. The good news is- the more you do it, the easier it becomes! It always seems hard at first, but once my phone is out of sight, I forget about it. Invite some friends over, leave your phone in another room and just enjoy each other’s company. The internet isn’t going anywhere 😀

Never heard of the term Hygge before, but for me a clean hardwood floor is the best form of it 🙂
