     When I was a kid I use to love shopping for back to school supplies. Picking out new a binder (preferably with a picture of cats on it) and fresh new packages of pens got me excited for the school year. Back to School supplies have come a long way since I was a child. The selection, colors and designs that are being offered today are so awesome! Back to school supplies aren’t complete without a cute case! This Binder Pencil Case DIY is the perfect way to keep your little one organized this school year. It features loops that attach to the inside of a binder so it won’t get lost, plus a handy zipper for easy access.

Supplies needed for Binder Pencil Case DIY :

Cotton fabric

Fabric for lining (I used cotton flannel)

9 inch zipper

Fusible interfacing

Cut out the pattern pieces above- 2 pieces for the pencil case, 2 pieces for the lining, 1 strip to make the tabs and 4 small pieces to cover the ends of the zipper.
Iron the fusible interfacing to the back fabric rectangles (it’s not necessary to add interfacing to the lining)

First you sew the tabs on both ends of the zipper. Sandwich the tabs between the zipper- right sides together-sand stitch down.

The tabs will cover the front and back of the zipper ends on both sides.

Sew the zipper to each side of the fabric.

The next step is to make the tabs that attach to the binder rings. Using an iron, press down the sides of the 14×2 inch strip of fabric.

Press the sides together (so that the raw edges are hidden) and stitch down in place. But the tabs so you have 3 that measures 4 inches each.

Pin the tabs to the bottom of the fabric. Check against the binder rings to make sure they line up properly.

Sew the pencil case to the zipper and then sew around the sides and bottom. Sew the lining to the zipper and sew around the sides and part of the bottom. Leave an opening so you can turn the pouch right side out. Slip stitch the opening closed.
