This time of year is so hot and humid I can't bear to wear my hair down for long! Instead of resorting to the usual bun I've been wearing my hair in these Scarf Milkmaid Braids. Using a scarf to secure the braids (instead of bobby pins) makes it hold so much better! I like hairstyles that once they're finished you don't have to fuss with. This is one of those styles! If I haven't sold you on this style yet, as an added bonus you get great no-heat beach waves when you take it out.
Long skinny scarf or strip of fabric (it should be longer than your hair on each side)
Divide your hair in half. Take the fabric and center it around the back of your neck.
Braid one side around the fabric tie. The fabric tie takes the place of the third strand of hair in the braid.
Secure the end with a clear elastic.
Repeat on the other side.
Take one braid and cross it over the top of your head.
Take the other braid and cross it over the top of your head. Using the ends of the fabric tie, knot the braids together. using a double knot.
Take the ends of the fabric and loop them around the knot to hide to excess.
