The cut out trend is everywhere this Fall. The shoulder cut out look has been popular for a few seasons now, but now designers are taking it up a notch. Whether a silver or large, dramatic opening these cut out take plain tops into new territory.
No need to drop a lot of cash- this trend is easy to DIY with tops you already own. Here are a few tips:
1) Choose your fabric wisely. Sweatshirts and knit t-shirts are a great choice, so are lightweight acrylic sweaters. They will not unravel when cut (the edges roll a bit which gives it a more finished look) Don’t try this with bulky sweaters.
2) Mark off where you want to cut with marking pencil before wielding the scissors. Your best bet is to put the top on, then mark it with the chalk. This way you’ll know where exactly on your body the cut will be. Remember, start small! You can always make the cut bigger.
3) Use very sharp scissors. Dull scissors are not only difficult to cut through fabric with, they also drag and create unnecessary fraying.
