how to grow your own pineapple

April 4, 2014

totally become obsessed with gardening! I’m constantly on the search for
new things to grow. The most recent thing to pique my interest is
growing plants from food scraps. Did you know you could grow a new
pineapple from the top of an old one? It’s really easy!

[Grab the top of a pineapple at the base of the leaves and twist it off. It will come off easier than you think]
[Peel the bottom leaves off- about an inch up]
[Cut horizontally across the bottom to remove any excess pineapple meat. The brown dots on the bottom are root nodules]
[Place your pineapple in water- change the water every few days. After 10 days roots will have sprouted. Plant the pineapple in a pot and makes sure it gets plenty of sun. A new pineapple can take up to 2 years to grow, but in the meantime you’ll have a cool, tropical plant!]

WOW! This is awesome! I have a pineapple ripening right now AND I may (or may not) have just killed my house plant so I need a new one. Genius 🙂

Hi Aida- I change the water every few days. It doesn't go through it too fast.
