diy woven leather tassel necklace

February 27, 2014

I came up with this design recently after acquiring some large gold chains. The chain links looked kind of sparse on their own so I decided to weave leather cord through them à la Chanel. The tassel is made from assorted chains- this DIY is a great way to make use of your broken necklaces!

  • Leather cord
  • Assorted chains (for tassel)
  • Wide 33 inch length chain
  • Gold embroidery floss
[Take the leather and weave it in and out through the chain. Leave a 5 inch section of cord at the beginning and a 5 inch section of chain at the end]
[Thread the end of the cord through the chain to connect the necklace together]
[Take the ends of the suede and weave them through the bottom part of the necklace to create a tassel]
[Drape the assorted chains over the tassel]
[Cut a section of embroidery floss and tightly tie around the top of the tassel. Wrap around a few times and knot again]

So pretty and it looks just like the Chanel's strap 😉 Do you have a tutorial on how to do the weaving?

Oh how fun! I bet this could be done with minimal items from the craft store as well…!

Great way to recycle a necklace that might be a little out of date and not worn anymore, thanks!
