oversized chain scarf pattern

November 11, 2013

This chain link scarf looks complicated by it’s pretty easy to knit. Each link is actually an individual rectangle that gets rolled up and stitched closed.

(Here’s my Basic Knitting Tutorial if you’re interesting in learning how to knit or if you just need to brush up on your technique)

Size US 8 needles and sport weight yarn
Cast on 10 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch for 10 inches. Bind off. Repeat until you have 12 rectangles
Once you are finished knitting, roll the rectangles up lengthwise and stitch closed using a yarn needle. Form a circle and stitch closed.  Continue linking the other sections to the scarf and sew closed.

I love this scarf and am trying it now! Though I realized with "sport weight" (2-3) I needed to double my cast to 20 and use a size 6 needle. 10 was just way to skinny and didn't turn out as chunky as yours. But for my first knitting project ever this is pretty fun!
