diy leather dyeing

October 17, 2013
Over the years these Marc Jacobs boots have become really scuffed (note to self- don’t buy ivory boots- they’re impossible to keep clean!) I decided to give them new life using my beloved Tarrago leather dye (I purchase it from ebay). The dye is applied with a sponge-make sure you wear plastic gloves. The color goes on thin so I needed about 4 coats. The black color is much more versatile and I can’t wait to start wearing these again.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Does the color flake off? What happens if you wear them in the rain?

The leather is dyed, not painted so it never flakes off. Also, the dye is permanent and it won't bleed in the rain.

Such a great idea- I want to try this with my old shoes!
