diy anthropologie tassel necklace

October 4, 2013

While browsing online through Anthropologie I came across this beautiful statement necklace. It’s pretty simple to re-create using supplies that most of us DIY lovers already have!

  • Strip of fabric (22 inches long, 6 12 inches wide)
  • 10 wooden beads
  • 12 inch strand of yarn
  • Piece of leather or suede (available at craft stores)
  • 2 jump rings
  • White embroidery floss
  • Fabric paint
  • Craft glue
[Fold the fabric width-wise, right sides together]
[Stitch a line across the top, creating a tube]
[Turn the tube right side out]
[Fold the ends over creating 3 pleats]
[Insert the end of the yarn into one of the pleats]
[Sew a line connecting the yarn to the fabric]
[String the beads on to the yarn]
[Sew the end of the yarn to the fabric as described in the previous step]
[To cover up the stitching on the ends- use craft glue to attach the end of the suede to the fabric. The suede should measure 1/2 inches wide 2 1/2 inches long. Roll the suede around the fabric and secure the other with more glue. Repeat on other side]
[In the middle of the beads attach a jump ring to the yarn. Then attach another jump ring to that one]
[Cut the entire skein of embroidery floss into 10 inch pieces. String the pieces through the jump ring]
[Wrap a 3/4 inch wide and 2 inch long section of suede around the top of the tassel. Use craft glue to secure]
[Use fabric paint to color the ends]
