diy knit cat ear hat (inspired by eugenia kim)

Spread the love

I’m a sucker for anything feline-related, so naturally I fell in love with this Eugenia Kim hat. I liked how it was chic and not overly cutesy. I created a very simple pattern that any beginner knitter can do. If you can knit a scarf you can make this hat!

[All the techniques needed to knit this hat can be found in my Basic Knitting Tutorial]

I used Lion Brand Homespun yarn in Edwardian
Pattern: Using no. 7 needles cast on 30 stitches. Knit each row until the pieces measures 19″. Bind off. Fold in half lengthwise. Sew the top and side together (pictured below). Turn inside out. The square shape turns into cat ears when placed on the head.

  3. this is adorable and simple! wonderful idea.
i do have a question, i'm using a lighter weight yarn, so 30 of my stitches look a good bit shorter than your 30. could you give a measurement of the width of the knitting?
thanks so so much!! xxxo noelia

  4. Hello, I love the hat! I was wondering how much yarn you used? I have some Softee Chunky yarn that I would like to use, but I want to make sure that I will have enough yarn! It is a 3.5 oz skein! I want to make the hat the same size as yours!

    1. Sorry I have a hard time visualizing these things. So when it's folded in half, the folded seam is on the side, and it is open on the top, bottom, and other side? Or do you fold it in half and the folded seam is the top, with the sides and bottom open? Thanks c:

  5. I made myself and my husband this hat a couple of years ago. We have 6 black cats so are cat crazy. We wear them often. I made 1 for my baby granddaughter the other day in a black glitter dk yarn and have just started knitting myself 1 the same. Thank you Gina.
