Trying Out The Most Popular Makeup Hacks on Pinterest

We’ve all seen tons of makeup hacks on Pinterest. Have you ever wondered which ones really work? I have! I decided to put 5 of the most popular makeup hacks to the test. See how they measured up!

Baby Powder Mascara
The Hack: Apply baby powder to eyelashes before mascara to make eyelashes look fuller.

The Result? Honestly, I didn’t notice any difference. I applied the baby powder with a new (clean) mascara brush. It was pretty messy and the baby powder didn’t stick to the brush all that well. My Clinique Lash Primer works way better.

White Lip Liner
The Hack: Apply white liner to the middle of your lips before lipstick to make them look fuller.

The Result? This hack is awesome (see pic at the top)! It really does make your lips look so much fuller. Plus, I think it looks a lot more natural than over-lining your lip line. It didn’t make my lips feel dry, nor did it drastically change the color of my lipstick. I’m definitely adding this makeup hack to my daily routine!

Spoon Mascara Shield
The Hack: Hold a spoon against your eyelid when applying mascara to prevent any from getting on your upper lid.

The Result? I almost always end up with mascara on my eyelids. Usually I go in with a Q-tip dipped in makeup remover and then touch up with eyeshadow. Not the most efficient solution. It was a little tricky to apply the mascara and hold the spoon at the same time, but the end result was great- mascara-free lids!

Mascara Thinner
The Hack: Submerge your (closed) tube of mascara in hot water to make the formula thinner and reduce clumps

The Result? Another winner! I placed the mascara in a hot (not boiling) mug of water and let it sit for a minute. When I applied it (I tested it on my hand to make sure the mascara itself wasn’t hot) the formula was thinner, but not runny. This is a great trick for those mascaras that are prone to clumping!

Broken Makeup Pots
The Hack: Use Rubbing Alcohol to fix broken makeup pots.

The Result? We all know the pain of a broken makeup pot…especially if it was expensive! This hack made my broken pot good as new! Just add a few drop of rubbing alcohol to the broken powder. Place a piece of plastic over your finger and smooth/mold into place. Let dry overnight.
