Toddler Stripe Slouch Beanie Free Knitting Pattern

I know, I know- knit hats in July ? If you’re a knitting fanatic like me, you don’t put the needles down just because it’s summer! I love to sit in front of the A/C with my knitting project to escape from the heat.
This Toddler Stripe Slouch Beanie is the perfect hat for those chilly Fall mornings. I knit this hat using cotton yarn. It has a lot of stretch so it can easily fit toddler sizes 2-4.
These little cotton bonbons yarns kept popping up on my Amazon home page. I couldn’t resist the pretty Fall colors so the great price so I decided to give them a try. I was very pleased! The colors are vibrant and the yarn is very soft but still substantial.  These bonbons are perfect for smaller projects like hats and gloves.

Note- You can knit the hat in any combo of colors- (there were a few bonbons yarns that came in the package that I didn’t use) . I worked 1 inch in each of the colors pictured above.
Cast on 88 sts. Place a marker and join together. Work in K2, P2 ribbing until hat measures 8 inches from the cast on edge. Switch yarn color every inch.
Shape crown:
Row 1: K2, P2, K2 together, P2, repeat across row
Row 2: K2, P2, K, P2 together repeat across row
Row 3: K2 together, P2, K, P repeat across row
Row 4: K, P2 together, K, P repeat across row
Row 5: K1, K2 together across row (switch to double point needles when needed)
Row 6 & 7: Knit 2 together across row
Keep knitting 2 sts. together until you are left with a handful of stitches. Break yarn, pull through remaining stitches and pull to tighten. Weave in ends.
