Super Easy 3 Square Child’s Sweater [knitting pattern]

July 22, 2016

There are tons of cute patterns out there for kid’s sweaters, but most of them are rather complex for the beginner knitter. I wanted to create a super easy pattern that even the most newbie knitter could make. This poncho-like sweater is made using 3 squares…that’s right, if you can knit a square you can make this!
PS- Adult version of this pattern is coming soon =)

Size US 8 straight knitting needles
Yarn needle
Lion Brand Scarfie yarn in Charcoal/Aqua (1 skein)
Knitting pattern
Gauge: 3sts = 1 inch
Sizes 1-2 years, 3-4 years, 4-5 years
For the front and back square:
Cast on 50 (52, 54) sts. Work in Garter Stitch until piece measures 14 (15, 16) inches. Bind off.
For the turtleneck:
Cast on 50 (52, 54) sts. Work in Garter Stitch until the piece measures 8 inches. Bind off.

Sew the pieces together at the top- 3 1/2 inches on each side. Fold over and sew the side seams together, leaving a 6 (6 1/2, 7) inch opening for arm holes.
Fold the remaining piece in half lengthwise to create the turtleneck. Sew the side seam. Sew the turtleneck on to the sweater.
