A while back I created this knitting pattern for an Ear Flap hat. Not only is it one of my most popular patterns to date, it’s also my favorite! I made several in different colors and I wear them all winter long. Naturally, I wanted to knit a scaled down version for my little guy. This hat knits up really fast thanks to the big needles and extra bulky yarn.
Yarn: Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick (1 skein)
Needles: Size 13 circular 16 inches long
Size 13 straight needles (for the ear flaps)
Size: 6-12 months
Gauge: 2 sts= 1 inch
Cast on 32 sts. Work in K1 P1 ribbing for 2 rows. Knit in the round until piece measures 5 1/2 inches from the beginning. To shape the crown: Knit 2 sts together all around until you are left with 5 stitches. Cut
yarn, leaving a 5 inch tail. Thread tail through stitches of last row, pull to secure and make a knot. Make and attach pom pom.
|[To make the ear flaps- Cast on 6 sts. Work in Garter stitch for 2 rows. Knit 2 sts together at each edge until you have 1 stitch left. Pull yarn through stitch to make a knot. Sew ear flaps on the the sides of the hat approximately 5 inches apart]|
