diy dyed coat

March 4, 2014

This coat was originally solid navy. After many wears, I noticed that the fabric has began to discolor (lighten) in some places. I decided to give it a new look by tying up sections with sting and bleaching it. I wanted to give it a marbled look instead of the traditional tie dye. I’m really happy with the way it turned out!

[How To- this works best on natural fibers- my coat is cotton. Tie up each sleeve in a cross cross pattern (shown above), then tie the body of the coat up (leave the sleeves out) Put the coat in the bathtub and pour bleach over it (roughly 2 cups). Let sit for 5 minutes. Flip coat over and  pour bleach on the other side. Let sit another 5 minutes and rinse thoroughly in cool water. Machine wash and dry]
