diy shopbop multi strand necklace

February 18, 2014

I love the look of layered necklaces. The inspiration for this DIY comes from this delicate necklace for sale on Shopbop. It combines braided embroidery floss, thins chains and beads to create a wear with everything piece that’s perfect for spring!
Supplies-

  • Embroidery floss (4 skeins, complimenting colors)
  • Assorted chains
  • Necklace closure
  • Jewelry pliers
  • Seed beads
  • Bead stringing wire
[Take the 3 skeins of embroidery floss and cut them into sections that measure 26 inches long. Make a knot and braid them together and finish with a knot]
[Using jewelry pliers attach the jump rings and closures to the braid, near the ends]
Take the thin chain- I doubled mine up- and use the stringing wire to attach near the jump rings]
[Cut a 15 inch length of stringing wire. Halfway down the necklace knot the wire on to the braid]
[String on the beads and attach to the other side of the necklace using a double knot]
[The wraps are used to cover the 4 parts of the necklace where the necklaces are joined together. Take a 1 inch long piece of embroidery floss and tie on to the braid leaving a 2 inch tail. Wrap around and tie the end of the floss on to the tail. Trim ends]
[Voilà the finished necklace!]
