diy embroidered tote bag

February 21, 2014

The lovely folks at Darby Smart sent me this DIY Tote kit. The original instructions called for a cross stitch monogram letter on the front but I wanted to put my own spin on the project. I decided to a silhouette (of a cat- what else!?!) instead.
Supplies

  • Tote Bag
  • Heavy duty hand needle (like these)
  • Washable fabric marker (like this)
  • Metallic embroidery floss
[Print out your silhouette and cut it out]
[Using double sided tape, tape it on the bag]
[Hold down the image with one hand and with the other trace around it using the marker]
[Remove the image and start stitching around the outline. If you’re new to embroidery, the Back Stitch is relatively easy to do. Use a wet Q-tip to remove any washable marker lined that are still showing]]
