diy shoe makeover

April 29, 2013
[shoes: Valentino]

I purchased these flats years ago. I loved the color and the cut out detail. I loved them so much that I ignored the fact that pale pink satin shoes are impossible to keep clean. After several wears the toes and heels became discolored and they wear resigned to the back of my closet. Enter Tarrago dye. I purchased the dye kit (from ebay) deciding to change the color to a much more durable and edgy black. 30 minutes later (not including drying time) I had new shoes!
Some info about Tarrago dye

  • It can be used on canvas, satin, leather and synthetic leather
  • Dye kit includes: Preparer, Dye, paintbrush and sponge
  • It comes in 100+ colors
  • It’s a dye, not a paint. It doesn’t crack, or chip or come off in the rain
  • You can dye any color- even black to white
[Dab some Preparer (included in the kit) on a cotton ball and rub over the outside of the shoe. This will remove dirt and ready the fabric for dyeing]
[Using the paintbrush, dab some dye on to the sponge. Brush on to the shoe]
[This is after the first coat of dye. You have to apply 3-4 thin coats to build up the color]
[After you achieve the desired color, let the shoes dry overnight]
