diy pom pom beanie [knitting pattern]

January 4, 2013

I found this beautiful yarn while shopping recently. I wanted to knit something quick and easy, so I created this pattern for a pom pom beanie.

[If you need to brush up on the basics, here is my knitting tutorial]
Pattern:
I used Lion Brand Homespun yarn in “Painted Desert” (1 skein) and size 13 (US) needles
Cast on 57 stitches
Row 1: K3, *p1, k3; rep from * to end of row. Row 2: K1, *p1, k3; rep from * across to last 2 stitches, p1, k1.
Work until piece measures 10 1/2″
Last 2 Rows: *K 2 stitches together; rep from * across to last st, k1. Repeat on final row.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread through the remaining stitches on the needles and pull to tighten. Sew side seam.
The large pom pom is actually 2 separate pom poms layered on top of each other. I did this to create extra fullness. [If you don’t know how to make a pom pom, check out this tutorial]

On this Pom Pom hat do you repeat rows 1 & 2 until the hat reaches 10 1/2 inches??? or just row 2???
