last minute halloween costumes

October 22, 2012

Halloween is fast approaching. Still haven’t decided on a costume?  Why not look to some popular movies/tv shows for inspiration…

A white t-shirt and black shorts are the basis of vampire lovin’ Sookie’s waitress outfit. Print the “Merlotte’s” logo on iron-on transfer paper or sticker paper and attach it to the t-shirt. You can purchase the green apron or sew ties on to a piece of green fabric. Costume stores sell latex vampire bite marks or you can make your own using household items. Dressing up as everyone’s favorite flaky fashionista is a breeze. Pair a red body con dress with red shoes. Top it off with a white feather boa, a cell phone and red lipstick. [dress: American Apparel, boa: Amazon, shoes: Michael Antonio,]

All you need to create this costume is a black long sleeve dress and knee socks. The felt collar is easily made using this DIY tutorial. Add a little white face powder and put your hair in pigtails to complete the look. [dress & socks: American Apparel]
Don a black maxi dress and red gloves to emulate notorious villain, Cruella. The two-tone wig can be purchased at most costume stores. A white piece of faux-fur fabric (worn as a stole) can substitute for a coat. Finish off the look with smoky eyes and dark red lips. [dress: American Apparel, wig: yandy.com, gloves: buycostumes.com]
Mary’s costume is easy to replicate because it’s all black. Pair a maxi skirt with a blazer and add some white gloves. Accessories with a hat, boots and umbrella. [skirt: American Apparel, blazer: Target, hat: Amazon, boots: Payless]
If you want to dress up as Twin Peaks’ eccentric Log Lady look no further than the thrift store. A matronly floral dress and oversized cardigan are the perfect wardrobe. Accessorize with red glasses and don’t forget her constant companion; a log. If you don’t want to lug around a heavy real log all night you can make your own using wood print fabric. [dress: American Apparel, cardigan: Piperlime, glasses: Amazon]
