diy slithering earrings [inspired by Anthropologie]

August 29, 2012
I came across these “creepy meets cute” snake earrings on Anthropologie recently. I loved the design, but not the $195 price tag, so I decided to make my own version (for around $8!).
This DIY involves a lot of hand sewing so it isn’t ideal for the novice crafter. Before you begin, print out the snake pattern piece here.
Supplies
  • Black leather
  • Earring posts
  • Seed beads (if you want your earring to look exactly like the Anthro ones, I recommend buying the smallest seed beads you can find)
  • Needle & thread

[The earrings are made up of 4 pieces. Each side has a front and a back. Using the pattern piece cut out 4 snakes. Taping the pattern to the leather will prevent it from sliding around while you are cutting it.]
[Poke the earring post through the leather up top where the head is. Do this for 2 of the snake pieces]
[Sew the front and the back of the snake together for each side]
[Starting at the tail, bead in a horizontal fashion]
[Change the colors around the bends of the snake’s body. When you reach the head add 2 beads for eyes]

Love! They're great statement pieces, and I love to see how folks personalize (and lower the price point) on anthro jewelry. cute!

Those are really cute. Are they very heavy on the ear?

And I thought the earrings at the long island jewelry stores were intricate enough. This one has a lot of work in it.
