[top: Ter Et Bantine, skirt: DIY, jewelry: vintage, shoes: Miu Miu] |
Here’s something to remember next time you’re out thrifting: a shapeless, unflattering dress can be turned into a cute skirt ♥
Supplies:
- An oversized dress (make sure the dress is “pull on” style and has no buttons or zipper)
- 3/8 inch wide braided elastic. The length should be 2 1/2 inches smaller than your waist measurement.
[Measure yourself to determine how long you would like the skirt to be. Then using tailor’s chalk or pins mark off the length on the dress and cut] |
[Finish off the raw edges. If you don’t have an overlock machine you can use the zig zag stitch on your sewing machine. This prevents the edges from fraying] |
[Using an iron press down a 3/4 inch fold around the top] |
[Stitch the waistband down. Leave a small opening to put the elastic through] |
[Attach a safety pin to the end of the elastic, then guide it through the waistband. Make sure the elastic isn’t twisted and then sew the ends together. Sew the opening in the waistband down. That’s all!] |
